It doesn’t seem to be a good time for BMW whose stock has collapsed on the stock market also due to a huge car recall that the car manufacturer is carrying out in this period. The problem arises from a defect in the integrated braking system supplied by Continentalwhich may cause interference in the electronic signal of the system.
In rare cases, this defect could increase the force needed to apply the brakes, deactivating crucial functions such as ABS (anti-lock braking system) and DSC (dynamic stability control). However, BMW points out that without warning lights the cars continue to be safe. On the contrary, if the warning lights come on and a message appears on the screen, the car should be taken to the workshop immediately.
The recall affects a total of 1.5 million cars worldwide, of which 1.2 million are already in circulation (which will now have to be repaired) and 320 thousand still in production (the problem will be resolved before placing them on the market).
The faults affect several BMW car models produced from June 2022 until 2024.
BMW models affected by the recall
The BMW group has said that it will send a communication to affected customers “as soon as possible”, but if you have one of the models targeted for the brake problem, we advise you to contact the company’s assistance to find out more.
Replacement of the integrated braking system in the cars affected by the recall will be free and will require an intervention of approximately 3 and a half hours (however, more time may be needed in the event of problems obtaining spare parts).
