Contaminated popcorn corn: Conad and Sigma have recalled these lots

Two well-known Italian supermarket chains recently recalled some batches of popcorn corn due to the possible presence of harmful substances. In fact, the checks revealed tropane alkaloids beyond the legal limits, these are natural compounds that can have toxic effects on the nervous system and the heart if taken in high quantities.

Conad has ordered the recall of 4 lots of its own brand popcorn corn, produced by Melandri Gaudenzio Srl in the Bagnacavallo (Ravenna) plant and packaged in 400 gram bags. The measure was taken as a precaution after detecting tropane alkaloids.
