Coop has announced a precautionary recall of a product intended for early childhood of its Coop Crescendo line. These are organic spelled biscuits without milk and without eggs.

The reason for the recall concerns the possible presence of a contaminant, lead, in quantities exceeding the legal limits. This recall is particularly sensitive since the product is intended for children, a segment of the population particularly vulnerable to the risks deriving from exposure to toxic substances.

Lead is a heavy metal known to be toxic. Exposure to high levels of lead can cause damage to the nervous system and cardiovascular system, affect brain development, and cause cognitive and behavioral difficulties. In children, ingesting lead can also cause growth problems and increase the risk of organ damage.

The lot not to be consumed

The product affected by the recall is, as already mentioned, Coop Crescendo organic milk-free and egg-free spelled children’s biscuits, sold in 170g packs.

It is important to know the batch not to be consumed which corresponds to number L4224.

What to do if you have the recalled biscuits at home

Coop, as a precautionary measure, has already withdrawn the product from the shelves of the affected stores but consumers who have purchased the biscuits are invited not to use them and to return them to the store to receive a refund. For any further information, the toll-free number 800.80.55.80 is available.

The recall was also communicated through the website of the Ministry of Health, which provided information regarding the risks and methods of return. In addition, the recall sign is displayed in Coop stores where the product was sold, thus ensuring that consumers can easily access the information.

This alert is particularly important and must be shared to protect the health of the little ones. Then spread the news among friends, family and colleagues so that all potential consumers are warned and can take the right precautions.
