Dalì’s art arrives in Rome: an exhibition between revolution and tradition (with over 60 works)

The city of Rome welcomes the visionary genius of Salvador Dalì. From 17 October 2025 to 1 February 2026, the Museo del Corso at Palazzo Cipolla presents “Dalì. Revolution and Tradition”, an exhibition that explores the creative universe of the Catalan master through its many facets.

The Rome Foundation created the exhibition with the Fundació Gala-Salvador Dalí and the patronage of the Spanish Embassy. The project offers an unprecedented look at the relationship between Dalì’s surrealism and the great European pictorial tradition.

A dialogue with the masters of the past

Carme Ruiz González and Lucia Moni have curated an exhibition divided into four sections. Each part of the exhibition explores the connection between Dalì and four fundamental figures of art: Vermeer, Velázquez, Raphael and Pablo Picasso. The artist had a deep and complex relationship with his Catalan colleague Picasso, made up of admiration and rivalry.

The exhibition also delves into the contents of “50 magical secrets for painting”, the 1948 treatise in which Dalì exalted technique and composition. The surrealist genius celebrated the mastery of the great painters of the past through drawings and original materials exhibited for the first time.

Works from international museums

The public will be able to admire over 60 works including paintings and drawings, accompanied by photographic and audiovisual documents. The works come from the Fundació Gala-Salvador Dalí and from prestigious institutions such as the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, the Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza, the Museu Picasso de Barcelona and the Uffizi Galleries.

The exhibition also celebrates the connection between Dalì and cinema. The artist was theorist, director, screenwriter, set designer and actor. For the twentieth anniversary of the Rome Film Festival, the exhibition inaugurates a special collaboration with the festival, a way to pay homage to an intellectual who passionately explored different disciplines: from science to literature, from philosophy to the seventh art.
