Dazn sends a letter to pirate users who used the piece: “Pay 500 euros or we will take legal action”

The Dazn platform has started a campaign to protect its rights by sending official letters to thousands of users who have watched Serie A, Serie B and European cup matches via illegal streaming services, thanks to the so-called “pezzotto”. Those involved are asked to pay 500 euros as a “lump sum compensation” to settle the matter amicably, thus avoiding legal consequences. The initiative comes after months of investigations conducted by the authorities and represents a turning point in the fight against digital piracy, which has heavily damaged the sports rights market in recent years.

Seven days to pay or legal action will take place

The communication sent by Dazn offers an “amicable settlement” of the dispute: those who accept must make payment within seven days and undertake not to repeat behavior that violates copyright in the future. Otherwise, the company reserves the right to initiate legal action in both civil and criminal matters. This is a decisive approach, which aims to make users responsible and discourage the use of illegal IPTV, which is now widespread.

The operation of the Guardia di Finanza

The provision was born following an extensive investigation by the Special Goods and Services Unit of the Financial Police of Rome and the Economic-Financial Police Unit of Lecce, coordinated by the Lecce Prosecutor’s Office. Investigators dismantled a network that transmitted copyrighted content, violating law no. 633/1941 on copyright.

Through an in-depth analysis of personal, banking and geographical data, it was possible to trace the users of the pirate services. The judiciary then authorized the transmission of the data to the rights holders, allowing Dazn to act directly against those responsible.

Thousands of users have already been identified

According to estimates, around 2,500 users have already been sanctioned since the beginning of the year, while over 3,000 are still in the identification phase. Dazn has clarified that the use of the data will serve exclusively to obtain compensation for damages, both financial and moral, resulting from the unauthorized dissemination of its contents. The platform’s move marks a change in strategy: from simple criminal reporting to direct recovery of damages. A clear message to those who continue to believe that “pezzotto” is a pastime without consequences.
