Don’t have a balcony? The modular system arrives to build it already prepared for photovoltaic

A modular balcony equipped with devices for the production of renewable energy.

To cope with high bills and the need to produce energy from renewable sources, many people are turning to balcony photovoltaic devices. But must those who do not have this space give up this opportunity forever? A solution is offered by a research center that has developed a system compliant with the housing standards of the Basque Country, with the hope that one day it may also be available in our country.

Tecnalia, one of the leading technological research and development centers in Europe, based in Spain, is committed to innovation in sectors such as energy, construction, health, mobility, industry and digital transformation. Researchers at the center recently unveiled a project dedicated to existing homes: a prefabricated modular balcony.

The project aims to develop an industrialized product that integrates systems for the generation of renewable energy, ventilation systems and an intelligent energy manager, as well as offering the possibility of adding outdoor spaces for homes without balconies.

Named Balin, the modular system has already been designed, manufactured, installed and tested. Once marketed, it will be the first prefabricated balcony to comply with the regulatory requirements (currently valid only for the Basque region) for installation on existing buildings, with additional features such as the production of renewable energy and the integration of thermal heating systems , ventilation and domestic hot water.

The project involves a consortium of Basque companies, Tecnalia highlights that the balcony will be sold at an affordable price thanks to the support of the Hazitek program of the Basque Business Development Agency.
