The earthquake that hit the Messina area today 18 January at 2.54 pm is of magnitude 4.0, confirmed by theNational Institute of Geology and Volcanology (INGV). The quake caused no injuries or damage, but still frightened residents and tourists.
As IGNV explains, the epicenter of the earthquake was 2 km south of Militello Rosemarycome on Nebrodiat a depth of 8 kilometers (about 80 km from Messina). With 13 municipalities within 10 km of distance, the earthquake could have been felt by a total population of just under 45,000 people.

Fortunately, at the moment no damage or injuries have been reported, but there was still a lot of fear.
