Everyone is ready for a sky full of stars, the Black Moon is back

Come back there Black Moonwe are waiting for you on December 30th. Despite the name, it is not a bad omen at all: it is only the second New Moon in the same month, which therefore saw 5 lunar phases instead of four.

What does Black Moon mean

Black Moon is not an astronomical term (nor is it Blue Moonnor Supermoonnor micromoon), but in recent years it has been popularized by social media, astrologers and religious followers Wiccan.

But, precisely because it is not an official astronomical phenomenon, there is not actually a single definition, but at least two, as for the Blue Moon: it is, in fact, a Black Moon. either the second new moon in the same month, or the third in a season that contains four.

The first black moons are more common and occur approximately once every 29 months and it is precisely the one we will admire on December 30th, because it is also a new moon on the 1st of the month. The second type, however, is rarer, occurring approximately once every 33 months (the last one was on May 19, 2023).

The meaning of the Black Moon has its roots in ancient myths and legends. According to the earliest versions of the Hebrew Bible Lilith (which means, precisely, ‘Black Moon‘) was Abraham’s first companion, repudiated and expelled from Eden because she went against divine will (hence, perhaps, the association of the term with bad omens).

In modern astrology, however, the Black Moon represents a moment of great changealthough also the dark sides and unconscious impulses of the human soul. But on the other hand, great changes, not infrequently, occur after great crises.

What we will see on December 30, 2024

Like all New Moons, we will actually see “nothing”—at least, not the Moon. It could therefore be an unmissable opportunity to distance ourselves from sources of light pollution and truly admire a sky full of stars.

The next Black Moon will be August 23, 2025.
