TO 107 years old Grandmother Clementinesaid Tinadoes not stop even in the face of intestinal obstruction and consequent surgery under general anesthesia (with minimally invasive technique), carried out at Milan Polyclinic. The woman, elderly with incredible strength, he’s fine and she will be able to spend Christmas with her family, pampered by her beloved nephew Gianluca.

Tina arrived in the emergency room in the evening complaining of a significant abdominal pain and the CT scan highlighted thesmall bowel obstructionan urgent situation to be kept under close observation.

We waited a few hours to see if the case could be managed without the need to proceed surgically – says Hayato Kurihara, director of Emergency Surgery at the Milan Polyclinic – but the following morning, having re-evaluated the clinical picture, we noticed a painful intestinal tract and the only possibility to save the lady’s life would have been an intervention

Having obtained the family’s approval, the lady was therefore subjected to laparoscopic abdominal surgery, a minimally invasive surgical technique, which involves ageneral anesthesia but which guarantees a limited time under the knife (in this case only three small incisions and less than an hour in the operating room were enough).

We live in a society that is aging rapidly and increasingly we have to deal with complex situations: but the possible fragility of the patient that matters today is the personalized treatment that we can guarantee

According to what was reported by Istatin fact, i supercentenarians (i.e. people aged 110 and over) still alive on 1 January 2024 were 21, (20 women and 1 man), and more than doubled compared to 2009when there were 10 of them.

Medicine is making giant strides in this regard, developing increasingly sophisticated surgical techniques, applicable even in cases like these, without prejudice to the need to ascertain, as always, the general health conditions of the patient.

There wasn’t even the need for Intensive Care and Tina quickly returned to form (…) Just think that three years ago she had already undergone surgery at the Polyclinic for a fractured pelvis and a few days after being discharged she was on her feet. Let’s not just give our fragile patients a chance, the real challenge is bring them back to their normality

Happy birthday Tina, it will be a special Christmas for you and all your loved ones.
