Murphy, L’Aquila Calva who had moved the world with his sweetness and his paternal instinct, is dead In Missouri on March 15th following the violent storms that hit the region. Guest of the World Bird Sanctuary of Valley Park, Murphy He was 33 years oldan age higher than the average of its species, which usually lives between 20 and 25 years.
His story had gone around the world in 2023 when he was resumed while trying to hatching a rock, convinced that it was an egg. Murphy’s image intent on protecting his stone “eggs” had excited millions of people, transforming it into a Symbol of parental instinct and unconditional love.
Affected by his behavior, the managers of the sanctuary decided to entrust her with a wounded eagle. Murphy, with his innate dedication, took care of the child carefully guiding him until complete healing and on his return in nature.
The following year, Murphy became again adoptive father of another eagle in need of care. Also this time he proved to be an extraordinary parent, confirming his altruistic spirit and his role as ambassador of his species. The second eagle, currently still in rehabilitation, will be ready to be released in nature by the summer.
Has undergone a trauma in the head
The World Bird Sanctuary announced his disappearance with great pain, explaining that Murphy was found lifeless in his aviary on the morning of March 15th. A necroscopy revealed that he had immediately a trauma in the headprobably due to a clumsy jump or a sudden swift of wind. Even if he had faced countless storms in his life without problems, that night something may have contributed to his tragic end.
His three fantastic companions are in good health and the structure has not suffered damage. The sanctuary stressed that he always has an emergency plans to face adverse weather conditions, but unfortunately, sometimes, sometimes accidents are inevitable.
To honor Murphy’s memory and its extraordinary contribution to the protection of eagles in difficulty, the sanctuary has announced the construction of a special aviary dedicated to orphaned or injured specimens. This structure will bear the name of Murphy’s Manorso that his inheritance can continue to live and inspire new generations.
