Four students end up in hospital after drinking mineral water: what we know about the Ischia case

Four young students from Casamicciola Terme, on the island of Ischia, were struck by sudden illnesses after drinking bottled mineral water, purchased within their own school. The water, regularly sealed, triggered the alarm: the boys were immediately transported to the Lacco Ameno hospital for the necessary checks.

Three of them were hospitalized in the Short Intensive Observation department, where they were monitored for 24 hours following the protocol for suspected poisoning. A fourth girl, who had only tasted the water without ingesting a significant amount, was detained as a precaution. Fortunately, their conditions are stable and cause no immediate concern.

The investigations are already underway. The Carabinieri of the Casamicciola Terme station have seized the remaining bottles and are questioning the family members to reconstruct the details relating to the purchase and consumption of the water. The case is under close observation.

In the meantime, the Prevention Center of the ASL Napoli 2 Nord has activated an investigation to trace the suspect batch number, assessing whether it is necessary to take precautionary measures on the distribution of the entire batch.

The seized bottles will be subjected to laboratory analysis, while toxicological investigations are underway to clarify the causes of what happened. The goal is to establish whether this is an isolated incident or whether there is a systemic problem related to the product.
