Metro C towards Rome North: the new Farnesina–Venice section has been unblocked (and will cost 776 million euros)

The capital’s third metro line takes a decisive step towards completion. Roma Capitale and the Metro C Consortium (made up of Webuild and Vianini Lavori) have signed the contract for the construction of the T1 section, a 776 million euro investment intended to connect the Farnesina area with Piazza Venezia.

Continuous excavation: no interruptions between sections

The Capitol focuses on an integrated approach. The T2 section, which will connect Piazza Venezia with Clodio, is already at an advanced stage of preparation, while the T1 – currently in the final design phase – will be grafted onto the existing route.

The mechanical cutters will start from the Farnesina well and will proceed without interruption: they will cross the new Auditorium stop, continue under Piazzale Clodio and finally reach the historic center, up to Piazza Venezia.

Timing and new stops: horizon 2033

The Colosseum and Porta Metronia stations are already operational, but the plan envisages other significant interventions in the coming years:

Most frequent trains: every 3 minutes

The Municipality has already optioned 17 new latest generation trains, which will enter service starting from 2027. With the expansion of the fleet to 30 trains, Metro C will reach a frequency of one passage every 3 minutes during peak hours.

This increase will substantially improve the transport capacity of the line, making it a cornerstone of the Roman metropolitan network.

The complete network: 29 kilometers and 31 stations

Once the works are completed, Metro C will extend for 29 kilometers and have 31 stops, connecting the eastern terminus of Monte Compatri/Pantano with the Olympic Stadium area, north-west of the city.
