In May 2022, after having shown excellent climbing skills at the Volta a Catalunya, the athlete’s life was turned upside down by a normal routine anti-doping test.

Laboratory tests detected an abnormal presence of the hCG hormone in the blood, an unusual biological marker for the male organism. The immediate clinical tests coordinated by the medical staff excluded any hypothesis of sporting misconduct, revealing instead a much more serious reality: a fifteen millimeter testicular tumor. The diagnosis imposed an immediate stop to competitive activity and urgent hospitalization for delicate surgical removal, followed by the necessary therapies.
Surprisingly, just four months after the operation, the Scandinavian cyclist returned to training and competing, immediately achieving notable placings at the Tour de Langkawi. His career has been a constant climb: after overcoming a broken elbow on his debut in the 2023 Tour, he achieved his first professional victory at the Tour of Switzerland in 2024. The following year, at the 2025 Vuelta a España, he stunned the public by wearing the red leader’s jersey for four days, closing the Spanish experience with a prestigious ninth place finish in Madrid.
