Games: do you know what they are done with? Do they hurt health or are they harmless?

They are cheap, they carry everywhere and generally seem effective in reducing mosquito stings, but do we know everything about the sparse?

The term “gadgetone” derives directly from the surname of the Italian event and today it generally indicates all the spiral anti-life products, regardless of the manufacturer. It has become the anti-life par excellence in Italian culture.

The sight and smell of those steaming spirals are a must During the summer, but breathing that smoke that keeps the shamans of mosquitoes away is not worse than the stings themselves for our health?

The answer could be found in a study that the particulate matter produced by the combustion of a coil would be equivalent to burn between 75 and 137 cigarettes. A type of exposure, therefore, that cannot fail to represent a risk for health, even if from a purely scientific point of view, clear evidence would be lacking that long -term exposure to smoking of mosquito coils increases the risk of more serious impacts on health such as lung cancer.

The game does not apply the candle, however we feel to say, or at least the key message should be to avoid prolonged exposure, especially in closed spaces: if the substance released by the Zampirone is lethal for insects but harmless to humans, the problem remains passive smoke.

What is a gushing and what is composed of

The anti -media spiral from the classic Verdone is essentially a sort of Incense made with Piretro della Dalmatia, a flower containing Piretina, a substance that is able to act on the nervous system of insects and kill them.

The properties of the flower were exploited at the end of the 19th century by the chemist Giovanni Battista Zampironi, who founded a laboratory in Mestre to produce the Gushinga pyrethrum powder to be inserted in an insectifugal cone. Subsequently, at the other head of the world, two Japanese had the same intuition and produced the first anti-media in the shape of a spiral in order to make them burn longer. Gadums adopted the same shape and Gushing Thus became the name of the incense anti -media par excellence.

This said, it would seem that the anti -media coils contain only flowers, but in reality they are a set of multiple substances. Together with the products that discourage mosquito stings, there are also products that keep the coil together and allow them to burn slowly. They work in two ways: some contain insecticides that will kill (or at least “break down”) mosquitoes, others contain aromatic substances (such as the lemongrass) will reject mosquitoes or reduce the probability they bite.

Specifically, they contain the D-alletrine, which is a pyrethroid, that is, a molecule created in the laboratory that imitates the action of the flower. Mosquitoes are kept away when they feel the presence of the gushing, because its fumes are extremely toxic and act on the nerve fibers of the insect.

How pyrethrines act

Pyrethrines are natural insecticides that act specifically on the nervous system of insects:

Therefore, a question remains: are the sparse innocuous or toxic? The concern, the experts remark, should only concentrate if the closed spuns are turned on. The insecticide products used are generally considered safe, but it is the particulate matter produced by a steaming anti -media coil which represents the greatest risk.

The solution? Do not buy sparse: from do -it -yourself candles to repellent plants, here we explain how to eliminate mosquitoes and how to defend you.
