Goodbye to Giorgio Armani: the stylist who said no to fur and angora wool and has changed fashion forever

The world of fashion cries the disappearance of Giorgio Armani, the great master of Italian style who has revolutionized the concept of elegance with clean, refined and timeless lines. It was not only a symbol of Made in Italy, but also a man capable of giving an ethical imprint to the sector, anticipating choices that today appear necessary and urgent. His death marks the end of an era, but leaves a legacy that goes beyond clothes and catwalks.

Among the decisions that have contributed to building his image of visionary, there is undoubtedly to say enough of the angora wool.

No more wool of angora in the collections of clothes, he announced the Armani group after the complaints of Peta Asia on the terrible suffering of the rabbits from which this material is obtained. A position that had a huge impact on the entire industry and that has contributed to raising the public on the dark sides of fashion.

But Armani did not stop there. With courage, he chose to eliminate animal fur from his collections, focusing on sustainable and cruelty-free alternatives. A decision that made school, demonstrating how luxury can live with respect for animal life and opening the way to other international brands. In this way, he has transformed his aesthetic into an ethical message: beauty does not need cruelty.

The stylist was also known for his profound reflections on the future of the sector. In a letter addressed to the world of fashion, Giorgio Armani had invited everyone to “slow down”, to reduce waste, to rethink the continuous and frenetic cycle of the collections. His vision, also matured during the pandemic, highlighted the need for a radical change towards a more responsible and respectful fashion of people and the planet.

Finally, during the health emergency from Covid-19, Armani once again demonstrated his sensitivity. He was among the first to understand the seriousness of the situation, deciding to present a collection behind closed doors in Milan. Not only that: he has donated more than 1 million euros to hospitals and has converted his factories to produce disposable cans for doctors and nurses.

A concrete gesture, which confirmed how his commitment went beyond fashion.
