Once again we find ourselves faced with images that we would never have wanted to see and propose to you regarding how people are treated animals in intensive farming. In particular this video shows the brutal and unconscionable practices used during disease epidemicslike avian influenza.
One of these practices is lo foam-based depopulationa method in which the sheds in which animals, particularly turkeys and chickens, are raised are filled with dense foam which causes death by suffocation. This approach, although presented as a containment measure during health emergencies, cannot help but make us shudder due to its devastating impact on the last moments of life of animals, who experience panic and suffering as they desperately gasp for air.
Stopping ventilation
Another method used during epidemics isstop ventilation (VSD), which involves the interruption of the ventilation system inside the sheds. In this way, the animals are trapped in an environment where the temperature and humidity increase rapidly, leading them to die from asphyxia and hyperthermia.
The variant VSD+ makes this process even faster and more lethal, since in addition to stopping ventilation, they are added heaters or steam to increase the internal temperature of the sheds. Again, the result is a painful death characterized by slow and inexorable agony.
For industries it is a form of “human farming”
These methods are championed by industries such as “necessary” to prevent the spread of diseasesbut we can’t turn away and pretend not to see. Companies justify these practices as a form of “humane breeding” or “ethical management”but the reality of the suffering experienced by animals suggests a very different picture.
These techniques not only ignore animal welfare, but are also a symbol of a production system that puts profits before compassion. Several activist groups are trying to raise public awareness of these practices and are pushing for a change in the treatment of animals in livestock settings.
The hope is that, through greater awareness, we can encourage a stricter regulation that protects animals from cruelty and improves general conditions in factory farms in the hope that sooner or later these brutal places will disappear forever.
