With the arrival of the cold weather, many cities have already turned on the heating pads, while others are preparing. In these areas, which fall into climate band E, the heating systems will be operational as early as next week. To combine comfort and savings, ENEA has provided useful indications for efficient use of the systems.
Regulates the water delivery temperature
One of the main tips concerns regulating the temperature of the water supplied to the radiators. Usually, the internal temperature of the home is set via a chronothermostat, but the water delivery temperature remains fixed and pre-set. This can be inefficient, especially on days when the outside temperature varies significantly.
With external temperature variations of up to ten degrees during the day, it is essential to avoid always sending water at the same temperature to the radiators. The best solution is to combine climate thermoregulation with the boiler,
explains Nicolandrea Calabrese, head of the ENEA Laboratory for Energy Efficiency in Buildings and Urban Development.
What are the advantages of climate thermoregulation
Climatic thermoregulation allows you to adapt the temperature of the water sent to the system based on external climatic conditions. If the external temperature decreases, the delivery temperature to the radiators automatically increases to keep internal comfort constant. This adjustment is particularly useful for condensing boilers and heat pumps, which operate at low temperatures.
For every additional degree of temperature required, 2.5% more energy is spent. Adjusting the flow correctly can reduce consumption by up to 25%.
adds Calabrese.
All ENEA advice for energy saving
- Combine a climate control system with the boiler: this “sliding” solution automatically regulates the water delivery temperature, improving energy efficiency and reducing consumption by up to 25%.
- Install monitoring and control systems: smart meters help keep energy consumption under control and identify any waste or malfunctions.
- Regular maintenance of the systems: a well-maintained system consumes less and pollutes less. Anyone who does not carry out maintenance risks fines starting from 500 euros (Presidential Decree 74/2013).
- Check the internal temperature and the hours of operation: Italian legislation provides for a maximum number of hours of daily operation based on the climate zone. 19°C is enough to guarantee comfort, and every degree less can save up to 10% on consumption.
- Screen your windows at night: closing shutters, roller shutters or using heavy curtains helps reduce heat loss.
- : avoid placing furniture or curtains in front of radiators, as they hinder the diffusion of heat. Using reflective panels between the wall and the radiator, even simple aluminum sheets, can reduce heat losses.
- : airing the rooms for a few minutes is enough to renew the air without dispersing too much heat.
- Carry out a home check-up: a qualified technician can evaluate the efficiency of the system and the thermal insulation of the house, reducing consumption by up to 40%.
- Install thermostatic valves: mandatory in condominiums, these valves allow you to reduce consumption by up to 20%.
- Choose latest generation solutions: replace the old system with a condensing one or a high efficiency heat pump. Chronothermostats and presence sensors help regulate heating more efficiently, further reducing consumption.
