Heavy hydrogen truck sets a new record by traveling over 2,900 km on a single tank

The sustainable mobility sector marks an important milestone: an H2Rescue truck, designed by Accelerate by Cummins with support from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and other federal agencies, established a Guinness World Records traveling 2,906 kilometers with a single tank of hydrogen.

The test took place on public roads in California and was monitored by an official representative of Guinness World Records. The check was scrupulous: the truck’s tank was sealed before departure and only opened at the end of the journey. Equipped with a fuel cell engine Accelerates from 250 kW and fed with 175 kilograms of hydrogenthe truck – weighing approx 15 tons – he consumed 168 kilograms of fuel during the journey, maintaining a constant speed between 80 and 88 km/h and facing temperatures between 15 and 27°C.

Zero emission transport: efficiency and sustainability

The most relevant data? Zero carbon dioxide (CO2) emissionsa performance that represents a stark contrast to the approx 301 kilograms of CO2 that a traditional vehicle would have produced covering the same distance.

Designed primarily for emergency, military and public use, the H2Rescue truck demonstrates the potential of hydrogen as a sustainable fuel. Its large-scale adoption could enable replacement 6,900 liters of diesel per year per vehiclereducing greenhouse gas emissions by 2.5 metric tons.
