After years of waiting, the Grand Egyptian Museum (Gem) will officially open on 1 November 2025. Located a few steps from the iconic Pyramids of Gizathe museum represents the largest archaeological complex dedicated to a single civilization. The official announcement was given by the Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah Al-Sisi, while Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly assured that the opening will be an international event destined to recall visitors from all over the world.
The Gem extends its surface on approx 500,000 square meterswith over 57,000 finds on display and a path that traces the history ofAncient Egyptfrom prehistory to the Greek-Roman era. The museum is not only a tribute to culture, but also represents an important economic flywheel for Egypt, considering that tourism contributes for about 9% to GDP national.

Tutankhamon’s treasure and exhibition news
The heart of the museum will be the pavilion dedicated to Tuankhamon treasurewhich collects about 5,600 objects from the discovery of 1922. Some pieces, such as the famous Golden maskthey could remain at the Egyptian Museum in Piazza Tahrir, but the new space will allow to exhibit to the public objects so far kept in the warehouses.
The exhibition itinerary develops through Twelve galleriesalready partially accessible in the experimental phase. Among the main attractions, the colossal statue of Ramesse II11 meters high and heavy 83 tons, transported by Ramses Square. Visitors will be able to admire fittings that recreate the ancient processions, as well as thematic gardens that evoke the Egyptian flora.

Gem does not just be a traditional museum. The structure also houses an educational area dedicated to the little ones, the Children’s Museumwith interactive exhibitions designed to stimulate children’s curiosity. It is also present one of the largest restoration centers in the worldwhere young Egyptian experts restore famous finds and artifacts never exposed before, thanks also to the funds deriving from the exhibitions of the Tutankhamon treasure abroad.
The official inauguration of the museum has been scheduled as an exceptional event, which is placed among the cultural initiatives of the prominent of modern Egypt.
