Hunt for the bear that attacked a mushroom hunter in Trentino, it will be shot down

Another bear is about to be killed in Trentino following an accident that occurred on Saturday afternoon. A mushroom hunter was attacked by a plantigrade while he ventured alone into the woods.

The attack occurred in the upper Bleggio area. The person reported that he had been attacked from behind by a bear and that he fell to the ground, suffering injuries to his back and arms from the blows delivered by the animal.

Having managed to get away, he would have reached the nearest town to ask for help and raise the alarm. They were started immediately investigations on genetic samples left by wild animals in order to know his identity.

The aim is to proceed with theelimination of the bear according to the methods established by Pacobace, the interregional action plan for the conservation of the brown bear in the central-eastern Alps, for specimens deemed dangerous.

Animal rights activists feared it and denounced it worsening of conflicts between humans and wildlife in an increasingly tense climate.

We want to be clear about the precise methods and circumstances of the encounter between the man and the bear and how they were injured. While waiting for the identification of the plantigrade, we start the procedure for accessing the documents. We can already anticipate that in the event of an abatement order, we will immediately appeal to the TAR. This incident comes in an already tense context and we fear an increase in hostility towards bears and wild animals in the area” commented Gian Marco Prampolini, President of the LEAL association, upon learning this latest news.

Even this bear, assuming he is still alive, unfortunately has his days numbered.
