After over a decade of waiting, the most famous prehistoric world of cinema is ready to return to the big screen. Disney has in fact unveiled the first teaser trailer for Ice Age: Boiling Pointsixth chapter of the historic animated series which will debut in Italian cinemas on 4 February 2027.
The announcement marks an important moment for a franchise that, since its debut in 2002, has won over generations of viewers thanks to a winning blend of comedy, adventure and characters that have entered the collective imagination.
An explosive adventure between lava and dinosaurs
The first images released immediately show the spectacular tone of the new film. The story begins when the protagonists are suddenly thrown out of an erupting volcano, finding themselves involved in a mission full of dangers and discoveries.
The group will have to cross landscapes dominated by rivers of lava, prehistoric creatures and unknown territories belonging to the legendary Lost World, the fascinating underground universe populated by dinosaurs introduced in the third chapter of the saga. According to the teaser, the film will explore areas never shown before, further expanding the narrative geography of one of the most profitable animated franchises in the history of cinema.
Manny, Sid, Diego and the timeless Scrat are back
Naturally there will be no shortage of characters who made the series famous. The public will meet the mammoth Manny, the saber-toothed tiger Diego, the sloth Sid, the enterprising Ellie and the eccentric adventurer Buck. The inseparable opossums Crash and Eddie also return to complete the group.
Great attention is also paid to Scrat, probably the most iconic character of the entire saga. The squirrel obsessed with his acorn continues to be the protagonist of the irresistible gags that have accompanied every film in the series. Alongside him also appears Baby Scrat, introduced in recent years and already much loved by the little ones.
The first film after the closure of Blue Sky Studios
Ice Age: Boiling Point represents a historic step for the franchise. In fact, it is the first main chapter created after the closure of Blue Sky Studios, the studio that had created and developed the saga from its origins.
After the acquisition of 21st Century Fox by Disney and the subsequent corporate reorganization, production passed to 20th Century Animation, called upon to take up the legacy of one of the most important brands in modern animation. At the direction we find John Donkin, already author of Ice Age – The Adventures of Buckwhile the production is entrusted to veteran Lori Forte, present since the first film.
A saga worth over 3 billion dollars
The numbers explain well the importance of the series’ return. In fact, the first five chapters have overall exceeded 3.2 billion dollars in worldwide gross, transforming The Ice Age in one of the most commercially successful animated sagas ever.
With erupting volcanoes, dinosaurs, new settings and the return of beloved characters, Ice Age: Boiling Point now aims to bring the franchise back to the center of attention of the international public, opening a new phase for a universe that continues to demonstrate a surprising ability to renew itself.
