On her 44th birthday, Kate Middleton, Princess of Wales, chose to celebrate this milestone with a gesture far from formalities: the publication of a new video from the series Mother Nature. A project that accompanied her for an entire year and which today, with the Winter episode, takes on an even more intimate value. In the video, released by Kensington Palace, Catherine appears during a walk in Berkshire, not far from Windsor, while her voice reflects on what nature has given her in the most fragile period of her life.
The strength of winter and gratitude
The heart of the video is a monologue that leaves no room for rhetoric, but moves on the terrain of authentic emotions. Kate tells how, precisely in the darkest months of the disease, contact with the natural environment became a refuge.
In January 2024, Catherine had in fact undergone a delicate abdominal operation and, shortly afterwards, she was diagnosed with cancer, followed by preventive chemotherapy. In March he decided to share everything with the public, choosing transparency. In September 2024 he announced the end of treatment and, at the beginning of 2025, the long-awaited news of remission.
His words are a true declaration of gratitude:
Even in the coldest and darkest season, winter has the power to bring us calm, patience and quiet reflection. Where the flow slows down just enough to allow us to see our reflection. To discover the deepest parts of ourselves. Along with the whispers in the heartbeat of every living being. I find myself reflecting on how deeply grateful I am. Because the rivers within us flow with ease, fears wash away, purify and purify. Find peace with our tears and discover what it means to be alive.
The “Mother Nature” project
The series Mother Nature was born as a creative journey that explores the cycle of the seasons and their connection with the human experience. Each episode is designed to underline how nature can help find balance, stimulate inner growth and strengthen bonds between people. For Kate, however, this project is also a sort of visual diary: a way to tell without filters how the landscapes, the silences and the slow pace of life in the open air contributed to her healing process.
