Land art: 7 spectacular sculptures and installations scattered around the world that ‘play’ with the surrounding environment

Giant clothespins pinching the ground, stone hands emerging from the grass, windows suspended in the air, are just some of the spectacular sculptures and installations that have appeared in parks around the world.

Works of public art perfectly integrated into the surrounding environment, created by artists from different countries, showing how art can be surprising and also very fun.

Let’s start with the giant slingshot,”Giant Slingshot Bench”, by German artist Cornelia Konrads: the installation includes two giant slingshot-shaped branches from which red straps connect to a wooden bench. One gets the impression that the bench is about to be thrown into the air.

The sculpture by Leandro Erlich called “Window and Ladder”. It consists of a window suspended in the air, on which a long ladder rests that allows you to reach it.

South African artist Strijdom van der Merwe is the creator of “Staircase to Heaven“, surreal installation created for the Nanhui Art Project in Taiwan. It is a staircase that seems to have infinite steps, although it is actually only 4.5 meters high.

At Chaudfontaine Park, in Belgium, we find “Clothespin” by the Turkish Mehmet Ali Uysala gigantic wooden clothespin 6 meters high, which seems to pinch the ground. This artwork transforms a simple everyday object into something huge and fun to look at.

In Glarus, Switzerland, the artists Eva Oertli and Beat Huber created “The Caring Hand”, a giant stone hand emerging from the ground around a tree. It symbolizes care and connection between people and nature.

At the “De Young Memorial Museum” in San Francisco we find a sculpture entitled “Safety Pin” by the artist Claes Oldenburg. It’s a giant safety pin.

Head over Heels“, at the Orenco Woods Nature Park located in Hillsboro, Oregon, is one of the wonderful installations by the artist Patrick Dougherty, an environmental sculptor who, inspired by primitive homes, creates wonderful weavings using tree branches.
