“Let’s stop waging war with weapons, they only serve to destroy”: the very powerful appeal of the indigenous Putanny Yawanawá

Putanny Yawanawá is a central figure in the Yawanawá culture, one of the indigenous peoples of the Brazilian Amazon. Daughter of the legendary leader Tuin Kuru, she became together with her sister Hushahu one of the first women of the AD tribe obtain the highest spiritual initiationa role traditionally reserved for men.

This breakthrough united the male and female universes, bringing a new dimension to Yawanawá spirituality and strengthening the culture of their community. Their commitment paved the way for many other women of the tribecelebrating the magic of female spirituality. To this day, he continues to play a leadership role in his community, leading spiritual retreats and promoting the cultural and spiritual heritage of the Yawanawá.

Rather than its role in the community, however, we want to focus on a powerful and emotional speech that Putanny Yawanawá did and which was posted on social media. It is a reflection on the use of weapons, underlining the importance of using other “weapons” such as voice, love, humility and patience to face the challenges of the modern world.

“Let’s go beyond our differences in skin, language and color”

Putanny Yawanawá called for violence and unnecessary destruction to be left aside, proposing a spiritual alliance strategy. These are his words:

What we need today is stop waging war with weapons to be heard. Your weapon is your voice, your weapon is your love. Your weapon is your humility and your patience. These weapons that destroy do not create. Nothing comes from them, they serve only to destroy. When someone dies, nothing changes. We need to fight with different weapons and use new strategies.

In this vision, communication and connection with the heart overcome the differences superficial of skin, tongue or color, and remind us that we are all part of one spirit.

This new strategy is our voice, it is our alliance. These spiritual covenants are where we stand as a family, as brothers and sisters; where we care for each other; where we go beyond our differences in skin, language, color. We communicate with our heartswith our thoughts and we feel that we are one. A spirit.

His words reflect profound wisdom and an appeal for peace and solidarity between people all over the world, going beyond any kind of difference and reminding us that we are all brothers. No more useless wars that only destroy, let’s leave room for dialogue to finally build a better future free from barbarism.
