Because Snow Moon
The February full moon was called Snow Moon by Native Americans since the second month of the year was the snowiest in today’s United States: the ancient tribes gave this name to the moon by actually observing the trees breaking from the coldbut also the people who had to sit shoulder to shoulder around the fire to keep warm. For similar reasons, i Celts they called this moon the Ice moonbut also Bone Moon.
But in reality not all cultures associate the February full moon with extreme cold and death: for the tribe of Hopi it is in fact the Moon of Purification And Moon of Renewalas the ancient Chinese called it Blossoming moon.
