The Ministry of Health has published a notice regarding a large recall of moringa-based food supplements, after a report received through INFOSAN (International Food Safety Authorities Network), the international food safety network managed jointly by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the FAO.
The alert is linked to an outbreak of salmonellosis involving several American states and which has been associated with some supplements containing moringa leaf powder.
According to what was communicated by the Ministry, the recalled supplements were marketed mainly through the websites of the manufacturers TNVitamins, Doctor’s Pride, Why Not Natural and Live it Up, but also on widespread e-commerce platforms such as Amazon, eBay and Walmart.
Although these are products distributed mainly in the United States, the Ministry deemed it appropriate to disseminate the notice also in Italy because some consumers may have purchased them online. The authorities invite anyone who has purchased one of the affected products not to consume it or give it to other people.
All supplements recalled
Moringa (Moringa oleifera) is a plant used for years in food supplements in the form of powder or capsules. It is often promoted as a superfood for its content of vitamins, minerals and antioxidant compounds and is used as a supplement in diets or as a restorative support.
In this case, however, the recall does not concern moringa itself, but exclusively the products and batches indicated in the alert, linked to the US salmonellosis outbreak.

Anyone who has already consumed one of the recalled products should monitor the possible appearance of symptoms such as diarrhoea, fever, abdominal cramps, nausea and vomiting, typical of salmonellosis. In case of symptoms, especially in more fragile people, it is advisable to contact your doctor.
