Two Belgian TikTokers, Neal and Senne, have attracted international attention with a decidedly audacious gesture which is already making the rounds on the web: they managed to hang one of their original paintings in the famous room of the Louvre where the Mona Lisa is located. A real mockery of the security systems of the Parisian museum, yet another after the millionaire theft.
The two young men, originally from Harelbeke, West Flanders, are known for their exploits, often documented on social media. Without being intimidated by the legal consequences, Neal and Senne have already bypassed security checks in international contexts such as the Champions League final at the Allianz Arena in Munich and the Rock Werchter music festival, where they spent more than a day in hiding before being discovered.
The plan was a perfect success
To succeed in the feat at the Louvre, the two prepared a painting of themselves and rolled it up to be able to transport it easily. They then created a frame out of LEGO bricks, explaining that larger pieces would not pass security checks. With speed and discretion, they managed to place the work near Leonardo da Vinci’s painting, thus avoiding immediately attracting the attention of the museum guards.
According to what the protagonists declared, the intent was not to openly challenge security, but simply to stage an artistic and provocative gesture. Senne emphasized:
We hung it up and left. We didn’t want to challenge security to the point of being discovered. A YouTuber tried something similar recently, and ended up spending a night in jail.
As mentioned, the episode takes place not even a month after the October 19 robbery at the Louvre, demonstrating how many flaws the museum’s security continues to have despite the fact that controls should have been strengthened after the “fool” committed in front of the whole world.
