The story of Tao and Oko it is an extraordinary testimony to a friendship that goes beyond difficulties. Tao, a Golden Retriever, has lost my sight due to glaucoma which irreparably damaged his eyes. His life, which until then had been made up of running and playing in the open air, changed drastically, leaving him to have to learn to move in the world without the ability to see.

His owner Melanie, wanting to help him find a new perspective, made a decision that would change both their lives: adopted a Golden Retriever puppy named Okowho was only eight weeks old at the time.
The bond between the two was immediate. Oko was not just a playmate, but became the “guide dog” of Tao, a real support for his blind friend. Oko, despite her young age, began to accompany Tao on his walks, guiding him gently.

Oko has learned to move safely
While Tao relies on Oko’s movements, the puppy has learned to respond to specific commands that allow him to move safely next to his elderly friend. Together the two dogs have become inseparable: they chase each other, play and sleep side by side, creating a bond that has moved many people.
Tao also has an Instagram account (@tao_mr_winky), where Melanie posts her daily adventures with Oko, sharing moments of joy and demonstrating how, despite blindness, life can continue to be full of love and happiness. This special bond not only improved Tao’s quality of life, but also gave Oko an important responsibility which grows with him as he perfects his leadership role.
Melanie hopes that Tao and Oko’s journey can raise awareness among people about canine glaucomaa disease that can be treated if diagnosed early. This way you will not only help other dogs like Tao, but you will also demonstrate that, sometimes, friendship is the best medicine.
