On May 27, 2026, with an announcement that closes months of anticipation, Meta has made the global launch of its paid plans for Instagram, Facebook and WhatsApp official. This is not the usual experiment aimed at testing public response within a few selected markets, but a truly global launch (even if distribution could take place gradually) which marks a change of pace in the monetization strategy of the Menlo Park group.

The first news of this was not a press release on the official newsroom, but a video published directly on Instagram by Naomi GleitHead of Product at Meta and the company’s longest-serving employee after Mark Zuckerberg, in Meta since July 2005. A non-random choice, because for years the Gleit has been the face with which the group announces product innovations that it prefers to present directly, without the institutional filter of about.fb.com. In the video, he explained that the new plans offer “richer ways to express and connect across our apps, with more fun features to be added.”
What Plus plans offer
Instagram Plus and Facebook Plus cost $3.99 a month each, WhatsApp Plus stops at $2.99. The three plans are different in functionality, calibrated on the nature of each app.
Instagram Plus focuses on visibility and audience management tools: subscribers will be able to see how many people have viewed their Stories in aggregate form, create unlimited audience lists beyond the classic “Close Friends” list, highlight a Story for a week, extending it beyond the standard limit of 24 hours, and view someone else’s Story without appearing among the viewers. Exclusive animated reactions are added, such as the “Super Heart”, custom icons for the Facebook and Instagram apps, alternative fonts for the bio and additional pins for the profile. Facebook Plus will replicate a similar set of features, while WhatsApp Plus it will follow a different direction, oriented towards messaging customization: graphic themes, personalized ringtones, additional pinned chats, premium stickers and advanced list management. The new plans, Meta points out, will not replace Meta Verified, the existing product focused on identity verification and impersonation protection, which will remain active in parallel for now.
Meta One: the umbrella plan that also includes AI
The most interesting part of the announcement though Meta Onethe brand under which Meta will group all its subscription offers over time. Alongside the consumer plans already launched, two additional categories are being tested.
For creators and businesses: Meta One Essential ($14.99 per month), which includes the verified badge and an expanded linksheet, and Meta One Advanced ($49.99 per month), which guarantees greater visibility in the Facebook feed, privileged positioning in Facebook and Instagram search results, automatic invitations to follow the profile for those who interact with the content and advanced analytical tools. These plans are already being tested in markets such as Saudi Arabia, Morocco, Thailand and Bangladesh.
On the front ofartificial intelligenceMeta will begin testing next month, initially in Singapore, Guatemala and Bolivia Meta One Plus ($7.99 per month) e Meta One Premium ($19.99 per month). The difference between the two lies in the processing capacity, given that the Premium plan will unlock the “thinking mode” for more complex reasoning and greater image and video generation capacity. Meta AI will remain free for casual use.
