Pellet stoves, which ones to choose? The best of 2024

We said goodbye to summer and temperatures are dropping. But we also said goodbye to the protected market which is now available are for the elderly and categories in economic and/or health difficulty.

Given the uncertainties in the electricity and gas market and the environmental (as well as economic) crisis we are experiencing, it is right to ask ourselves how to save on heating and safeguard the environment. An alternative to methane gas is pellet stovewhich works in a similar way to traditional stoves, but uses pellets as fuel, obtained from virgin wood.

Among the different ones available on the market, we present to you the best in our opinion.

What is pellet

Pellet is a fuel obtained from virgin wood, sometimes starting from processing waste, which, as established by the UNI CEN/TS 14588 standard, is

“a thickened biofuel generally in a cylindrical shape, of random length typically between 5mm and 30mm, and with broken ends, produced from pulverized biomass with or without pressing additives”.

The material is then regulated by the standard UNI EN ISO 17225 regarding specifications and classification for industrial and non-industrial use.

Is it worth heating with pellets?

This year too, pellet stoves benefit from incentives such as the Ecobonus, precisely because the energy source of pellet stoves is renewable. So the answer is yes, it is economically worthwhile, as well as helping the environment: especially considering the total uncertainty in which the electricity and gas market lives, we could also arrive at a 30% savings.

And, certainly, the overall savings increase if other sources are combined alongside the pellets renewable energy (although in this case it is necessary to consider the initial investment costs, which in turn benefit from various tax deduction options).

The best pellet stoves on the market

Given the interest that consumers are showing in this heating solution, there are now several options on the market, which can vary greatly due to various economic and environmental aspects, including the initial purchase costs, the actual savings on the medium and long term, emissions, etc.
