The Report on BenVivere and Generativity of the Italian provinces 2024published on the occasion of the National Festival of Civil Economy, signals significant changes in the quality of life of the Italian provinces.
For the first time in six years, Bolzano lost its lead in the BenVivere rankingsdropping to tenth place, with Pordenone who conquers the summit. This change reflects a general improvement in the Italian provinces, in particular those in the South, which are closing the gap with the North.
Bolzano suffered a decline mainly due to a reduction in performance in areas such as legality and safety, demography and family, environment, culture and tourism. On the contrary, Pordenone, already second in 2023, has improved its position, followed by Siena and Milanin second and third place respectively. The ranking also sees the entry of four new provinces into the top 10: Trieste (fourth), Rimini (seventh), Udine (octave) e Parma (ninth). Bologna, Prato, Gorizia and Ancona have instead left the list.
Some southern provinces are improving
Another relevant data from the report is the clear improvement recorded by some southern provinceshow Isernia (+37 positions) e Benevento (+24 positions), which contributed to reducing the gap between South and North by 0.36 points. This result indicates a positive trend for the South, where BenVivere is growing faster than in the North and Centre. However, some southern provinces, such as Crotone, Reggio Calabria and Taranto, they still remain in the last positions of the ranking.
In addition to the BenVivere ranking, the report includes that of Generativitywhich measures the ability of the provinces to facilitate the positive impact of individual citizens on the community. Also in this case, Bolzano maintains first position, followed by Milan and Trento, but all three provinces have suffered a contraction of the level of generativity.
Overall, generativity has seen a worsening, with an increase in inequalities between the most and least generative provinces, although there is a slight reduction in overall inequalities among the 107 provinces analysed.
