Raw milk cheese contaminated by Escherichia coli and fenugreek with banned pesticides: the recalled batches

Two products not to be consumed, two different risks. The Ministry of Health has published recall notices for a raw milk cheese and for three batches of fenugreek leaves: in the first case the problem is microbiological, in the second chemical.

La Magnocchetta raw milk cheese

The recall concerns a batch of La Magnocchetta – Valchiavenna raw milk cheese, marketed under the Formaggi del Curto brand. The reason is the presence of Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli (STEC), bacteria which can cause serious complications in the most vulnerable subjects – young children, the elderly, immunosuppressed – including haemolytic uremic syndrome with the risk of acute renal failure.

The affected lot is 120/12/1/25, sold in whole wheels weighing approximately 4 kg. The producer, Formaggi del Curto Snc, is based in via Don Primo Lucchinetti 24 in Mese, in the province of Sondrio (IT H4J93 CE identification mark). The recall notice was signed on March 25, 2026 on the initiative of the manufacturer itself, following self-protection tests that detected positivity to the bacterium.

Fenugreek leaves MDH

The second recall concerns MDH brand Peackock Kasoori Methi fenugreek leaves, sold in 100 gram packs. The analyzes detected the presence of chlorpyrifos and other pesticides not authorized in the European Union. The lots involved are 314, 315 and 316, with a minimum shelf life of 11/30/2026.

The product is imported from India, the importer is the German company Global Foods Trading GmbH (Am Winkelgraben 1a, Biebesheim, Germany), distribution in Italy is entrusted to Raja Wholesale Srl (in one of the two reports, another company, Savi Asian Food Wholesale Srl, is also mentioned).

What to do

Anyone in possession of the reported products – the cheese with lot 120/12/1/25 or the packs of MDH fenugreek with lots 314, 315 and 316 – is invited not to consume them and to return them to the point of purchase.
