Two batches of canned tripe, Simmenthal brand, have been withdrawn from the market due to a problem that directly affects those suffering from food allergies. The Ministry of Health published the recall notice last September 2 (published on the 3rd), reporting possible cross-contamination from soy and mustard not reported on the product label.
The affected product
This is tripe prepared with Simmenthal brand sauce, sold in 420 gram metal cans. The product is packaged by Bolton Food SpA in the factory in via Matteotti 2, in Aprilia, in the province of Latina (IT 14 L UE identification mark). There are two lots recalled: K104 and K105, both with a minimum shelf life set for 30 April 2029.

The reason for the recall
As the ministerial notice specifies, the measure is precautionary: it is not a confirmed contamination, but a risk of accidental presence of soy and mustard, two allergens that the legislation obliges to declare on the label when present, even in traces. For those who do not suffer from allergies or intolerances to these two ingredients, consuming the product does not entail risks. Anyone allergic to soy or mustard, however, would do well to check their pantry
What to do if you own the product
If you have a can of Simmenthal tripe in your pantry, you would do well to check the batch printed on the bottom of the package: if it says K104 or K105, with expiry date 04/30/2029, it would be one of the recalled batches. In that case, for those allergic to soy and mustard, the advice is not to open or consume the product, but to take it back to the point of sale where it was purchased, where it will be possible to obtain a refund.
