Wash in less than an hour: this is the new habit widespread in Europe and photographed by the study The Truth About Laundry 2025 of AEG. The “Speed Laundering” indicates the tendency to choose quick cycles and fast drying, often lower than two hours.
It is not just a matter of convenience: to push millions of families towards shorter programs are frantic lifestyles, flexible work and the need to frame the laundry on more and more full days. It is no coincidence that more than half of the Europeans today prefers to wash in the morning, to have ready clothes by evening.
How much you save with fast laundry
The real news of Speed Laundering is that it does not bring benefits only in terms of time. According to the Aeg Care Index, those who use short and low temperatures cycles can extend the duration of the garments of over 50%. Jeans, T -shirts and clothes of everyday use resist wear, with a positive impact both on the wallet and on the environment.
Here are the main savings:
The risks for delicate fabrics
Not everything, however, can end up in washing and flash drying. Wool, silk, down jackets and technical leaders remain a critical knot. Over three quarters of the interviewees in the study declares to be very cautious in drying out the wool, and almost half never puts it in the dryer.
The risk is real: treating more fragile fabrics aggressively can ruin them in a few weeks, frustrating savings. For this reason it is important to distinguish the garments that endure quick cycles from those that require specific programs or a drying in the air.
Bills and new European rules
The racing to fast laundry is also intertwined with the theme of energy costs. 43% of the owners of dryers, in fact, limit their use to contain the expenses. It is no coincidence that a quarter of Europeans has changed its drying habits in the last year.
From July 2025, moreover, the European Union has introduced more severe standards of energy efficiency: only heat pump dryers respect the new requirements, while the condensing models are intended to disappear.
Between intentions and reality
The report highlights a paradox: 84% of Europeans say they keep the care of their clothes, but only 25% really know how much washing affects their duration.
The challenge is cultural: learning to choose quick cycles and low temperatures when possible, use delicate programs for fragile fabrics, and avoid unnecessary washing. Only in this way can Speed Laundering be an ally of daily practicality without becoming an enemy of the environment.
