Stop snoring! Here comes the invention that is applied under the chin for finally silent nights

You don’t need surveys to know that snoring is a widespread problem. You only have to sleep in a room with someone who snores to realize how tiring it can become, night after night. According to Ameli.fr, almost 40% of adults over 50 suffer from habitual snoring. The problem isn’t just noise: sleeping badly can also have effects on your health, mood and personal relationships.

In an attempt to offer a less invasive alternative to bulky devices, a British company has developed Zeus Sleep, a small device that fits under the chin and which, according to initial results, could help reduce snoring thanks to a localized electrical stimulation mechanism. This is not a miracle product, nor a medical cure for complex respiratory disorders such as sleep apnoea, but a device designed for those who snore habitually and are looking for a practical and discreet solution.

How it works

Zeus Sleep looks like a small, lightweight device, similar to a technological patch. It is applied directly under the chin using a hydrogel pad. Its function is based on TENS technology, already used in other medical fields: it sends mild electrical impulses to the hypoglossal nerve, which controls the muscles of the tongue. The goal is to prevent the tongue from relaxing too much during sleep and obstructing the airway.

The operation is simple: it charges in about four hours, is applied before going to sleep and remains active throughout the night. It makes no noise, does not interfere with movement and does not require the use of masks or other bulky accessories. Unlike sprays or patches, it does not act on the nose but directly on the main source of snoring, which is the collapse of the tissues in the throat during sleep.

Other devices on the market follow similar approaches, such as ergonomic pillowcases or belts for sleeping in the correct position, but Zeus focuses entirely on neuromuscular stimulation, a path that has also attracted interest in clinical research in recent years.

It was tested on 186 people

One of the aspects that make Zeus Sleep interesting is the involvement of the British health system (NHS), which funded the project with 1.5 million pounds to conduct a clinical study on 186 participants. The results – at least according to what was communicated by the company – indicate a significant reduction in snoring in a large portion of the tested subjects.

It is important to note that this is not a medical therapy for sleep apnea or other serious sleep disorders. Zeus rather presents itself as a non-invasive technological solution designed for those who snore, perhaps without being completely aware of it, and for those looking for a middle ground between nothing and the most invasive devices.

The device was born in 2010 from an idea shared between an engineer and a doctor, both convinced that there was a gap between the widespread problem of snoring and the absence of truly accessible, practical and data-backed tools.

Zeus Sleep will be on sale from October 2025 in Boots pharmacies in the United Kingdom, at a price of 208.33 pounds, i.e. approximately 240 euros. It is not currently available in Italy, but it is possible that it will also be distributed in the rest of Europe, if interest continues to grow.

It is not a cheap device, but its cost is in line with other technological tools for sleep well-being. Unlike over-the-counter remedies, however, it does not promise temporary relief, but rather constant action during sleep. In any case, as with any device that acts on the body, it is a good idea to inform yourself thoroughly before purchasing, especially if you suffer from other respiratory disorders.
