Storm Amy reaches Italy (after causing 3 dead): strong winds and weather alert on six regions

Storm Amy is moving to Italy bringing strong winds, rains and thunderstorms. The Atlantic disturbance has already involved the regions of the Upper Adriatic and today, October 6, it will also affect the South, with intense gusts and hydrogeological risk. The Civil Protection has issued a yellow alert for Puglia and some areas of Sicily, inviting the population to maximum prudence.

The cyclonic vortex, moving towards the lower Adriatic, will continue to influence the central-southern weather, causing widespread cloudiness, local thunderstorms and winds supported by the northern quadrants. The most exposed areas will be the medium and low Adriatic, the Ionian coasts and the bass Tyrrhenian, including Abruzzo, Molise, Puglia, Ionica Basilicata, Tyrrhenian Calabria and northeastern Sicily. The strong winds will make the seas very moved or agitated, with possible storms along the most exposed coasts.

Damage to Europe: 3 dead

Before reaching the peninsula, at the weekend the Storm Amy overwhelmed Europe with exceptionally strong winds and intense rains, causing serious damage and at least three victims. Starting from the remains of Hurricane Humberto, Amy has reached the United Kingdom, establishing historical pressure records and gusts: 154 km/has Tiree, Scotland, and 148 km/ha Magilligan, Northern Ireland.

Thousands of homes in Scotland, Ireland and Northern Ireland remained without current, while trees demolished and storms blocked roads, railway lines and ferry services. In France, the storm caused two deaths between those who were at the sea or involved in road accidents, with gusts up to 131 km/h on the northern coast and blackout in Normandy.

Belgium also recorded twenty over 100 km/h, with the closure of the frangifutti in Ostend, while in Sweden, Denmark and Norway the strong rains and the winds have hit trees, caused blackouts and road closures, with western Norway particularly affected.

More stable conditions in the North and the Tyrrhenian center

The situation in the North and on the Tyrrhenian side of the Center is different, where the increase in atmospheric pressure will guarantee a more stable phase. Here the lightens will prevail on the clouds and temperatures, albeit autumn, will be more pleasant. The morning will appear cold especially in the internal valleys, with values typically in line with the season. The maxims will not undergo great variations, if not a slight increase in the most sunny areas.

On Tuesday 7 October, signals of greater stability are expected, with moderate temperatures increase especially in the North and on the Tyrrhenian Sea, while the northern winds will continue to blow along the center-south. On Wednesday 8 October the high pressure will strengthen the good weather, ensuring prevailing sunshine and a widespread thermal rise, with the exception of the southern Adriatic regions still exposed to twenty tense.

New vortex coming to Sardinia

From Thursday 9 October Italy will have to deal with a new cyclonic vortex near Sardinia, which will bring clouds and possible rains on the island and greater instability also partly of the center and the North. On the rest of the country, however, high pressure will persist, with stable time and mild daytime temperatures.
