The sixth episode, based on a screenplay by Kate Trefry, was directed by Shawn Levy, a long-time collaborator of the series. The seventh chapter saw the Duffer brothers and Levy working together as directors, while the eighth and final episode was entirely written and directed by creators Matt and Ross Duffer, bringing the final fate of the characters they brought to life almost ten years ago back into their hands.
