The heat is intensifying again in Italy after the spell of rain and strong winds which in recent days had favored a drop in temperatures in various areas of the country, particularly in the North (causing quite a bit of damage). The African anticyclone is increasing the heat, which in the last few hours has literally taken your breath away in much of the peninsula. And in some areas temperatures will even rise 10° C above seasonal averages. In southern cities such as Caltanissetta and Foggia the thermometers will reach 41°C.
The new increase in risk linked to high temperatures is confirmed by the heat wave bulletin from the Ministry of Health, a system which monitors Italian cities on a daily basis during the summer season.
The red-sticker cities
For Thursday 27 August there will be three cities with a red dot, level 3 and therefore the maximum level of alert for the effects of heat on health. These are:
Palermo is already on maximum alert today, Wednesday 26 August, and will maintain the red flag on Thursday as well. For Bari and Campobasso, however, the transition to level 3 is expected from tomorrow. We remind you that the red level signals emergency conditions linked to a heat wave which can have negative effects not only on people considered more fragile, but also on the healthy and active population.
Orange sticker in 9 cities
At the same time, the number of urban centers in the orange badge, corresponding to risk level 2, also increases. Thursday there will be nine:
The picture therefore highlights a new expansion of the heat along a large part of the Peninsula, with more challenging conditions not only in the South and on the Islands, but also in several cities in Central Italy.
Nine cities in yellow dot
The picture is completed by nine other cities with a yellow dot, level 1, which indicates a pre-alert condition and the possible appearance of meteorological conditions capable of preceding a heat wave.

Only 6 cities remain in the green label
With the increase in temperatures, cities in which no heat-related risk conditions are foreseen also decrease significantly. On Thursday 27th the green dot, corresponding to level zero, will concern only six cities:
The majority is therefore concentrated in Northern Italy, where the effects of the recent disturbance are even more evident.
