The almost 500 deer in Abruzzo are safe, but only for now: the slaughter has been postponed

The massacre of deer authorized in the territories of Abruzzo must wait and so must the hunters who have already taken up arms and paid the fee to kill almost 500 specimens. The fire will not be opened until November.

This was communicated by the LAV association, which reports the updates from the Abruzzo Region Council. The slaughter of wild animals, permitted by a resolution last August for the hunting control of the deer species, has been postponed.

However, the reason has nothing to do with the protection of wild animals. Although they are huntable species, deer cannot yet be killed because “no notices have been issued by the territorial areas”.

An “overlook”, as it was defined by LAV, which allowed animal rights activists to gain time and respond to this latest attack on wildlife. And time, as we know, is precious also because the appeal presented by the animal protection bodies was rejected by the TAR.

At stake are the lives of 469 deer, including 140 cubs. The quotas for hunting were set in the areas of the individual provinces and did not exclude mothers and cubs. The culling plan, distinguished by sex and age of the individuals, should have started on October 14, but this did not happen.

Even if the slaughter of deer wanted by the Marsilio Council is only postponed, we are still waiting for the ruling from the Council of State, which could give a further boost to the resolution intended exclusively to satisfy the requests of the hunters” declared Massimo Vitturi, area manager wild animals of LAV.

Taking advantage of the lack of territorial warnings, the protectionist associations continue to fight and use every means to prevent the doubles from gaining the upper hand.
