Creative recycling of sweets: from hearts to garlands, here are many ideas for reusing those left over

Halloween is upon us and if you have children who are passionate about trick-or-treating, this year too you will find yourself with accumulations of candy that even the little ones, after the initial binge, will get tired of. So what to do with it? Hide them away from greedy mouths (you know, after a while the desire resurfaces), abandon them to their fate or reuse them? Naturally we opt for the third solution, which is the most sustainable but also the most fun. There is no candy that escapes creative recycling!

Ideas for recycling gummy candies

Let’s start with the gummies: if they are still good you could use them to decorate a cake or sweets. Or use them to create original constructions, as in the example.

Christmas decorations

If the candy is hard and still wrapped in paper, you could hang it as is on the Christmas tree using wooden clips or string.

Notebook covers

Candy paper, especially if it is beautiful and has eye-catching colours, can be reused to cover an old notebook, creating a collage on the cover. Always with paper you can create decorative collages to frame and hang on the wall.

Candy hearts

Take a piece of cardboard, paint it red or pink, and glue the gummies you hoarded on Halloween onto it. Make a small hole on the top of the caramel heart and hang it in your bedroom as if it were a trophy!

Garlands

With the leftover candies you can also make a beautiful DIY garland to hang on the stairs or on the wall. If you glue the candies around a circular wreath, you will get a beautiful door wreath instead.
