After 7 months of work and 90 thousand pieces, Santa Maria di Collemaggio made of Lego has arrived in L’Aquila to be exhibited from 3 to 7 September at Zeta Theatre. The brick Basilica is the work of Maurizio Lampis and faithfully reconstructs one of the best-known symbols of L’Aquila and Abruzzo architecture.

The artist, who has now accustomed us to Lego works of unimaginable beauty, also succeeded in his aim of reconstructing the Basilica of Collemaggio and bringing it to L’Aquila, where, as we unfortunately know, the building was damaged by the disastrous earthquake of 6 April 2009.
The model is 170 centimeters long and almost one and a half meters wide, for a construction made up of approximately 90,000 bricks. But what is most surprising is the technique used: the work was in fact created entirely by hand, without the aid of software, only thanks to observation, memory, planning and assembly.

Lampis he is building a sort of miniature Italy, choosing a representative monument for each region.
What better symbol of Abruzzo and everything it has experienced than the Basilica of Collemaggio?
The artist will arrive in L’Aquila on September 2nd, ready for the start of the exhibition.
