In Rome, an ambitious sustainable mobility project finally takes shape: the Grabacronym of Great corner of the bikesdesigned to offer the city a ring cyclopedic about 50 kilometers which connects the main historical, archaeological and naturalistic places of the capital.
The goal is to create a real Green infrastructureaccessible to pedestrians and cyclists, capable of connecting peripheral neighborhoods and historic center, promoting an active lifestyle e respectful of the environment. The Grab route will touch some of the most iconic places in Rome: Colosseum, Imperial Forums, Terme di Caracalla, Appia Antica, Caffarella Park, Villa Ada, Villa Borghese Up to more peripheral neighborhoods such as Centocelle, San Lorenzo and Pigneto.
The Grab It was born as an initiative promoted by cycling and environmental associations, was then inserted among the strategic works of the Ministry of Infrastructure and financed with 13 million euros. The route develops mainly on low traffic roads, green areas, public parks, already cyclopedonal features and areas to be redevelopedwith the aim of enhancing the city’s historical, landscape and cultural heritage. Along the route, parking spaces, tourist signs and areas equipped for bike maintenance will be inserted.
Objective to complete the entire ring by 2026
Yesterday the first stretch del Grab, long 1.3 kilometersthat connects Via Celio Vibenna to Via di San Gregorio passing next to the Colosseum And offering a unique view of one of the most iconic monuments in the world. The cost for the realization of this section was approximately 2.8 million eurosfinanced in part by the Ministry and in part with European funds.
