The irresistible charm of Sicily of “Màkari”: where it is located and why visit the happy village of the Rai TV series

The fourth season of “Màkari” restarts on Sunday 19 October 2025 in prime time on Rai 1, ready to bring back to the screen the investigations and reflections of Saverio Lamanna, the writer-journalist born from the pen of Gaetano Savatteri. The drama, composed of four episodes of approximately 100 minutes each, will also be available in streaming on RaiPlay

The series stars Claudio Gioè as the protagonist, flanked by Domenico Centamore in the role of Peppe Piccionello and Ester Pantano in that of Suleima Lynch.

The new season is directed by Monica Vullo and Riccardo Mosca – after the first two were directed by Michele Soavi – with the production of Palomar in collaboration with Rai Fiction. The series will continue to mix mystery, irony and the strength of human bonds, always against the backdrop of the Sicilian landscapes that have won over millions of viewers.

A village that really exists

Macari really exists (we had already talked about it in this article) and is a small seaside village in the Trapani area, part of the well-known tourist resort of San Vito lo Capo, where just over 400 inhabitants live. The Gulf of Macari is a natural inlet along the north-western coast of Sicily, extending from the eastern side of Monte Cofano to Capo San Vito.

The term “Macari” comes from Greek μακαρ which means “happy” or “blessed”, a name that perfectly reflects the atmosphere of this corner of paradise. As mentioned, the village has around 450 inhabitants and has Monte Cofano as its backdrop, part of the Monte Cofano Oriented Nature Reserve.

Why visit Macari

In the Gulf of Macari there are some of the most beautiful beaches in Sicily, with crystal clear waters and landscapes of rare beauty. Macari beach is famous for the purity of the water, the golden sand and the splendid cliffs, a very suitable destination for anyone who loves snorkeling and relaxing in the sun.

The village is surrounded by beautiful beaches and is about 6 kilometers from San Vito lo Capo and 16 km from the Zingaro Reserve. The latter is a protected area that extends along the coast and offers hiking trails, hidden coves and rich biodiversity.

The filming of the series also involved other symbolic places such as the Tonnara di Scopello, Castellammare del Golfo, San Vito Lo Capo and the towns of Erice, Valderice, Custonaci and Buseto Palizzolo. The Tonnara di Scopello, one of the most scenic places on this stretch of coast, is the home of the restaurant featured in the series called “da Marilù”.

The Gulf of Macari can be easily reached by car from Palermo by taking the Palermo-Mazara del Vallo motorway, exiting for Castellammare del Golfo and then provincial road 16 in the direction of San Vito Lo Capo. A journey that promises to make visitors experience the same charm that has conquered the television audience, between crystal clear sea, uncontaminated nature and Sicilian authenticity.
