Laerte Pappalardo, known for being the son of the famous singer Adriano Pappalardo and for his participation in the Island of the Famous, revealed a dark chapter in his life linked to eating disorders. Guest of the program “La Volta Buona” on November 6, he spoke with great sincerity about the difficulties he faced after his experience on the reality show, a period that profoundly affected his relationship with the body and with nutrition.
The descent into the vortex: an apple and a tin a day
After returning from the Island, Laertes saw his body change radically. If at the beginning his physical appearance, extremely thin, seemed positive in some way, he soon realized that that change was hiding a much deeper problem. His weight dropped from 71 kg to just 53 kg, and soon his eating behavior became a real obsession. He began eating a can of tuna and an apple a day, an consumption that translated into just 270 calories daily. An extremely restrictive regime which, in the long run, had serious repercussions on his body and mind.

When thinness becomes illness
Laertes told how, in that period, he was so taken by his condition that he was no longer able to eat properly, leading himself increasingly towards a spiral of loneliness and emotional difficulties. At 51kg, with her body now consumed by thinness, she faced hospitalization when ascites, a condition in which fluid leaks from the intestine, arose due to her extreme weight loss. Hospitalization was the turning point, but also the beginning of a long and painful recovery journey that required years of fighting his illness.
The crisis and hospitalization: 51 kg and sudden ascites
The most critical moment for Laertes came when his weight dropped to 51 kg. At that moment, he realized that his condition had become truly dangerous, so much so that immediate hospitalization was necessary. An ascites, caused by extreme thinness, forced the doctors to intervene. This episode, although dramatic, was also a turning point in his recovery journey.
The long road to rebirth and family motivation
Laertes spoke of how difficult it was to deal with the worry of those close to him. The reaction of people who cared about him bothered him further, fueling a cycle of isolation and anxiety. However, his redemption came thanks to his inner strength and the main motivation that allowed him to get back up: his son. Despite the difficult path, Laertes managed to recover on his own, without the need for an IV or external support, finding new motivation in his family.
A battle against silence
The story of Laerte Pappalardo highlights an aspect that is too often overlooked: eating disorders are not a problem that only affects women. Men, in fact, can be just as vulnerable to these issues, but we tend not to talk about them enough. It is essential to recognize the signs of problematic eating behavior and not ignore them, because silence can only make the situation worse. Laertes had the courage to talk about it, to face his illness and to ask for help when he needed it. His experience teaches that, although painful, the recovery path is possible, but requires awareness and the choice to welcome the support of those close to us.
