The storms do not give respite to Lombardy (and Como Calcio gives the collection of the Italian Cup to the floods)

The torrential rains continue to hit Como and Varese hard, aggravating an already critical situation. After more than 170 millimeters of rain that fell in a few hours to which another 100 are added yesterday evening, the territory is facing new landslides, flooding and landslides that have isolated entire neighborhoods and put a strain on the roads.

The Province of Como in Emergency

Como is among the most affected areas. In the night between the night between 23 and 24 September, the firefighters carried out about 90 urgent technical rescue interventions, working tirelessly together with volunteers and law enforcement agencies to secure the territory.

Along the Statale Regina, a fundamental artery that runs alongside the lake, several stretches have been interrupted due to landslides and debris that got off the mountains. The SP Lariana has also undergone landslides and sorting, making the management of the viability complex. Serious damage also to Cantù, where a real crater opened on Provincial road 38 towards Rise Brianza. The asphalt collapsed, making the roadway impracticable and the stroke was immediately cordoned and closed to traffic. The alternative roads passes from SP 39 of Brenna, while technicians and authorities are evaluating times and methods for restoring the road surface.

In locations such as Laglio, Brienno and Argegno, the firefighters rescued blocked motorists, families and the elderly who could not leave homes with the historic centers invaded by mud rivers and water. In Blevio the most critical situation with a landslide that has invested the center and the hamlet of Girola. About thirty people, in addition to the twenty of the municipality of Torno, were displaced.

In Como Città the situation is no less complex: the lakefront and several main arteries have been closed due to flooding and accumulation of mud and debris. The inconveniences on circulation with the ASF company has heavy, which communicated that lines 4 and 7 circulate with delays and changes in the path without notice.

No service on lines C130, C131 and C132. The railway circulation has undergone strong delays and cancellations, in particular on the Como -Milan line it was interrupted between the Camerlata and Como Lago stations, replaced by buses.

Varesotto: roads like rivers in Valceresio

The same disturbance hit Varese, in particular Valceresio. In Bisuschio and Induno Olona the roads have turned into real streams, dragging branches and debris downstream. Houses, cellars and garage are flooded, while in Arcisate the water has reached a kindergarten, forcing operators to bring children to the upper floors. In Besano, however, a pour of mud has invaded some houses.

The mayor of Bisuschio, Michele Ruggiero, said that the situation is even more serious than that lived in July 2024, when another water bomb had already brought the territory to their knees. To worry is the repetitiveness of these events, which makes an urgently a structural prevention and safety plan.

Here too there are inconvenience to public transport. On the director Porto Ceresio -Varese -Milan, a failure at the Albizzate station caused delays up to twenty minutes, while on the Malpensa -Centrale line there are slowdowns related to problems for the exchanges of the Milano Porta Vittoria station, further complicating the movements of the citizens in this emergency phase.

The gesture of solidarity of Como Calcio

In this difficult picture comes a light of hope: Como Calcio, led by Cesc Fabregas, has announced that he will donate the entire collection of the Italian Cup match against Sassuolo to the affected populations. “Como for me is not just a city, he is a family and community”, wrote the technician on social media, underlining the closeness of the team to the territory.
