Taking care of your hair doesn’t just mean washing it, choosing the right shampoo is also essential to protect the scalp and keep our hair healthy and shiny. Many products on the market, however, contain aggressive ingredients, such as silicones, sulfates or irritating chemicals, which can dry out the hair or cause skin discomfort. Fortunately, there are many more health and environmentally friendly alternatives. But how to identify them?
To help you choose the most respectful products for your skin and the environment, Yuka has drawn up a ranking of the 10 best shampoos, all rated “Excellent” by the app. The list is independent, meaning no brands have paid to be included, which ensures an impartial selection.
Let’s immediately discover the products that entered the ranking.
The 10 best shampoos according to Yuka
What is Yuka and how the ranking works
Yuka is an app that rates food and cosmetic products. Each product receives a score ranging from 0 to 100 based on ingredients, additives and health impact. The app basically allows you to scan the barcode of the products and find out if they are “excellent”, “good”, “mediocre” or “poor”.
It is a useful tool for orientation, but not without limitations. In the food sector, for example, the system favors the Nutri-Score, so some ultra-processed products with little fat or sugar can obtain high scores, despite containing sweeteners, flavors or artificial additives. Conversely, natural and nutritious foods such as artisanal aged cheese or extra virgin olive oil may receive low ratings for fat content alone, without considering the overall nutritional context.
For cosmetics, Yuka is based on authoritative sources (ANSES, IARC, CSSC) and is more reliable. However, some limitations remain, for example it does not consider the concentration of ingredients, essential for assessing the real danger, and it may show outdated information if the formulation of a product changes.
In short, Yuka can be a valid help in choosing cosmetic products including shampoos, but personally reading the INCI and obtaining information from multiple sources is always the best strategy to really understand what you are buying.
