Between high temperatures and days that are increasingly difficult to bear, those who cannot take refuge at the seaside or in the mountains are looking for practical solutions to find some relief even when they are away from home, at work, on public transport, during a walk or travelling.
Among the most popular summer accessories are small portable fans, compact, rechargeable devices that are easy to slip into your bag or backpack, which promise to give you a little extra air in the worst moments. But do they really work? And above all, which models are worth choosing?
To answer these questions is a test Altroconsumowhich put 5 portable mini fans to the test, evaluating various aspects, from their ability to generate an effective air flow to their noise level, through to autonomy, practicality and the relationship between performance and price.
The good news is that all the models examined provided relief that was at least comparable but often superior to that of a fan. The differences, however, emerge above all in daily use: a fan that is too noisy can become annoying, while an underpowered model risks being almost useless if used outdoors.
The 3 best portable fans in the test
Among the 5 products analyzed, 3 obtained an excellent rating. In first place is Jisulife Life8, the model that convinces the most overall according to the test, also for the excellent quality-price ratio. Its strong point is balance: it is compact, foldable, takes up little space and manages to offer good ventilation without becoming excessively noisy.
With an indicative price of around 19 euros, it represents the most interesting choice for those looking for a personal fan to carry in their bag every day, use in the office or while traveling.

Those who above all want powerful ventilation can opt for the Bsrane F28 instead. This model stands out because it manages to move a significant quantity of air already at the lowest speeds, allowing relief to be obtained without necessarily having to increase the power and therefore the noise.
It costs around 15 euros, but it is less compact than other models and the larger size makes it less practical to fit into a small bag.

The third model promoted with flying colors is the Jisulife Ultra2, a more advanced and expensive device (around 100 euros) than the others. Its main feature is great power: it has numerous speed adjustments and can also be used as a small blower or power bank. Precisely because of these extra functions, however, it is heavier and less suitable to always be carried with you.
It is a more suitable choice for those who use it when camping, in the car or in situations where greater autonomy and versatility is needed.

The other fans analyzed obtained an average rating.
The Muitomas Minifan2 is very compact and economical (around 13 euros), but the battery has limited autonomy and at maximum speed the noise increases.
The Macom Ice Fan instead focuses on the presence of a cooling plate that gives a cool sensation when placed on the skin. This feature, however, does not actually cool the air produced by the fan and can reduce the overall efficiency of the device.
What to check before buying a mini fan
According to experts, when choosing a portable fan you shouldn’t be won over by the declared power alone. A good model should above all guarantee: an effective air flow even at low speeds, so as to reduce noise and consumption; USB-C charging, more practical and compatible with cables already used for other devices; a battery suited to your needs, considering that greater autonomy often also means greater weight; and finally safety systems, especially in models with exposed blades.
Also be careful when using it on the beach or swimming pool: none of the models tested are waterproof, so it is important to protect them from water and splashes. Even long hair requires some precautions: it is better to keep it collected during use, especially with models with exposed blades or with wider protections, to prevent it from becoming entangled in the mechanism.
Finally, another aspect to consider is air transport. Fans equipped with a lithium battery should generally be carried in hand luggage and not in your checked suitcase.
