There is nothing worse than imagining a dream day on a postcard beach and instead find yourself among waste, bad smells and polluted waters. A recent analysis of Cloudwards based on reviews published on TripAdvisor of the 200 beaches among the most famous in the world has highlighted the most disappointing bathing destinations on the cleaning front and the data are not encouraging.
United States in the front row
To lead the ranking there is Venice Beach in California, with over 60% of the negative reviews related to dirt. The Jolla Cove (57.9%) and his father Island National Seashore in Texas (55.7%) follow. In total, the United States occupy five positions in the top ten, a sign that even very famous destinations suffer from waste management and urban pollution problems.
Problems even outside the USA
The situation does not improve by moving overseas. The Thai Freedom Beach collects over 52% of complaints, while in Sri Lanka, the splendid bentota beach, disappoints with 48.2%. To these are added destinations in Greece, Cuba and the South Pacific, where natural beauty is compromised by neglect and bad tourist management.
Dangers that go beyond aesthetics
This is not just a visual problem. Looking at a beach and finding waste, polluted waters and bad smells is not only an aesthetic question, but an alarm signal for the environment and also for ourselves. In fact, dirt represents a risk to public health and for the marine ecosystem.
Many tourists complain about the presence of plastic, bad smells and turbid waters due to urban outflow. A Visitor of Venice Beach said that “Some areas stinking with urine“, While those who visited Father Island called”shocking“The amount of waste left by tourists. We must remind us that every plastic left at sea or on the coasts is not a simple waste: it is a toxic agent who can enter the food chain, threatening fish, birds and even man.
Protecting nature is not only a gesture of civilization, but an investment for the future: every step towards a more sustainable management of our natural environments helps to ensure that future generations can still enjoy clean beaches, crystal clear waters and intact marine biodiversity.
