Karim RifaiPeruvian economist, is transforming theaccess to educational resources with his innovative project, Uayki. This system of wireless connectivity offers a unique solution for areas without internetallowing access to a vast digital library with over two million resources, including books, audiobooks, podcasts, and certified courses.
The name Uayki, which means “brother” or “friend” in Quechua, reflects the aim of the project: reduce digital exclusion and promote learning in the most remote communities. The portable and energy-efficient device also works with solar energymaking it ideal for rural or difficult to access environments.
Once activated, create a local network which covers an area similar to that of a football pitch, allowing users to connect at no additional cost and without the need for an internet connection. Uayki is not just a network, but a digital ecosystem that offers access to educational, cultural and entertainment platforms.

You can customize the contents of the library
Uayki is compatible with Android, Apple devices and computers that are up to ten years old. Schools can customize library contents to meet specific educational needs, ensuring support tailored to the local context. Furthermore, the system can be updated periodically via Wi-Fi to offer the latest resources.
The cost to implement Uayki varies between $5,000 and $7,000with an estimated duration of up to ten years. This figure includes installation, training and ongoing technical support, making it a cost-effective solution compared to traditional internet services in rural areas.
One of the most innovative aspects of Uayki is the content selection. The system excludes harmful materials, such as pornography or gambling, focusing instead on resources that promote education, employability and entrepreneurship. This approach helps to improve the quality of people’s lives, offering them tools to face daily challenges and build a better future.
Currently operating in Peru, Guatemala and Equatorial GuineaUayki is improving access to knowledge for tens of thousands of people. Rifai plans to expand the project to other Latin American and African nations in the coming years, with the ambition of becoming a global leader in offline connectivity solutions.
