The Municipality of Chiavari (belonging to the metropolitan city of Genoa) is trying to stem the cost of beaches with an experimental public rental formula at regulated prices. Until September 13th, every day from 9am to 7pm, it will be possible to rent umbrellas, sunbeds and director’s chairs on the beaches of Marina Giulia and Velieri at a cost of 5 euros for each piece of equipment for the whole day.

Three hundred and twenty single rate equipment
The service, managed by Marina Chiavari Srl, provides a total of 320 pieces of equipment divided as follows: 120 umbrellas, 150 sunbeds and 50 director’s chairs. The rate is unique for each type and applies to residents and tourists.
How rental works
The system is entirely automated. To rent the equipment, simply make the payment, in cash or by card, at the automatic pay stations on the promenade and present the receipt to the staff on duty for collection. The rental does not include transport, positioning and setting up the station on the beach, which remain the responsibility of the user.
The mayor’s words
These are the words of mayor Federico Messuti, reported on his Instagram profile:
Excellent start for the new municipal rental service on the beaches of Marina Giulia and Velieri! Since the early hours of this morning, numerous citizens and tourists have chosen to rent umbrellas, sunbeds and director’s chairs, confirming their appreciation for this new opportunity made available by the Municipality. A service designed to make our coastline increasingly welcoming, functional and suitable for everyone.
